What are tired eyes?
Tired eyes are a very common phenomenon in the population. As a rule, eye fatigue is caused by a demand on the visual system to focus for a prolonged period on a particular object under sub-optimal environmental conditions. Accordingly, eye fatigue is a frequent problem among people who tend to work at a computer for long stretches of time. In addition, tired eyes can also result from looking at a mobile phone and from prolonged driving.

Signs of tired eyes
As noted, the signs of tired eyes are highly varied and tend to differ from person to person. Among the various signs you may find: general fatigue, difficulty concentrating, difficulty focusing, redness of the eyes, burning in the eyes, blurred vision, double vision, itchy eyes, tearing, headaches, back and neck pain, increased sensitivity to light and more.
What are the causes of tired eyes?
Eye fatigue can arise from various causes, but the leading cause among people who work at a computer lies in the work environment. That is, the work environment - made up of the computer screen, the posture of the work chair and the lighting - plays a primary role in the tendency to develop tired eyes. For example, staring at a screen from too close a distance, or from a height that is not at eye level, can force the eyes to strain. In addition, inadequate lighting may worsen the phenomenon of eye fatigue. Beyond the characteristics of the work environment, another cause of tired eyes is a focusing problem. Focusing of vision can be disrupted when the eyes are required to concentrate for long hours at a fixed distance. All of these are usually accompanied by blinking at a lower frequency, which in turn also leads, among other things, to tired eyes.
Treatment for tired eyes
Treatment of the tired-eyes phenomenon rests mostly on changes that can be made to the work environment and to everyday viewing habits. For example, one can wear sunglasses during daytime hours when there is bright lighting outside and avoid glare in the eyes. Likewise, around the workstation one can apply recommendations such as: adjusting the chair posture to the height of the screen, adjusting the lighting in the work room and adjusting the brightness of the computer screen. Beyond that, it is possible to use special eyeglass lenses adapted for screens, or various coatings for the computer screen that can reduce the degree of exposure to screen lighting. In addition, if you know you are facing a prolonged period of work requiring sustained eye focus, you should take regular breaks to rest the eyes.

Summary
Eye fatigue is a common symptom that appears after intensive use of the eyes. This phenomenon can cause significant discomfort that leads to impaired functioning at work and in daily life. In most cases, the sense of strain and fatigue in the eyes will pass after resting the eyes and the vision. At the same time, simple changes can be made in order to ease the eyes and reduce the load on them. It should be noted that if the eye fatigue persists, and is accompanied by discomfort in the eyes, double vision or other significant changes in vision, you should consult a specialist ophthalmologist.
