Prof. Michael Mimouni
Prof. Mimouni is Director of the Cornea Unit in the Department of Ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Technion Faculty of Medicine. He serves as Chairman of the Israeli Cornea Society on behalf of the Israeli Ophthalmological Society. Prof. Mimouni was selected as a leading ophthalmologist in his field (cornea) in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 in the Duns 100 ranking, which is based on a survey of ophthalmologists across Israel.
He completed his medical studies at Tel Aviv University and his residency in ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus. During his residency he took part in the prestigious "Atidim" research programme and won awards for excellence from Rambam Health Care Campus and from the Israeli Ophthalmological Society (ILOS). Prof. Mimouni took part in fellowships funded by the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) at leading centres in Europe.
Prof. Mimouni completed a two-year fellowship at a leading international centre in Toronto, Canada, in the fields of cataract, cornea, dry eye and laser vision correction. For this fellowship Prof. Mimouni won several prestigious scholarships from Rambam Health Care Campus, from the Israel Medical Association and from the American Physicians Fellowship for Medicine in Israel. During this prestigious fellowship he worked with leading international experts and performed corneal transplants, cataract surgery and laser vision correction using the most advanced techniques in the world. In addition, during this period he worked with innovative devices and preparations for the treatment of dry eye and for renewing the ocular surface.
Prof. Mimouni is actively engaged in scientific and clinical research, his main areas of interest being cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery and dry eye, and he has published over 250 papers in medical journals. In addition he serves as an editor for several medical journals and as a reviewer for over 50 medical journals. Prof. Mimouni is actively and continuously engaged in teaching medical students and residents in ophthalmology, and in 2020 he won the Technion's Outstanding Lecturer award. Prof. Mimouni is an active member of several professional societies in Israel and abroad and is Israel's representative to the Global Education and Research Society for Ophthalmology.
