An eye clinic provides patients with a wide range of eye-health services. In most cases, the diagnosis of disorders or diseases of visual impairment such as cataract, glaucoma, eye infections and diseases is performed in eye clinics.

In fact, during the visit to the eye clinic, routine eye exams, pre-surgery exams and post-surgery follow-up exams can be performed. The diagnosis is made in a variety of ways, from general eye examinations, through the use of special scanning devices, to the diagnosis of genetic diseases.

As noted, at an eye clinic you can undergo various exams such as:

The comprehensive eye exam – checks visual acuity but also several optical parameters required for the normal functioning of the entire visual system, such as focusing, for example.

Visual acuity – a test of the eye's ability to distinguish between objects with a high level of contrast. Poor visual acuity may lead to advanced vision complications, and therefore it is important to monitor it.

Focusing of vision – this test examines the visual function of both eyes, the movement of the eye muscles and the coordination between them.

Color blindness – among other things, color blindness can be diagnosed at some eye clinics. This is considered a relatively simple and easy test. It is based on the ability to distinguish prominent numbers against a background of colored dots. A person suffering from color blindness will have difficulty distinguishing between the items in the images, or will not be able to distinguish them at all, depending on the type of their color blindness.

Depth perception – in this test the level of coordination between the two eyes as well as the focusing of vision are examined. Its purpose is to check whether there is a condition of strabismus, lazy eye or any suppression of vision. Depth perception is possible only with successful coordination of the two eyes through the fusion of the two images captured in them.

Corneal mapping – the purpose of this test is to identify the condition of the cornea, which is the outer part of the eyeball, and to monitor it. It is usually performed before laser eye surgeries, corneal transplants and sometimes even before fitting contact lenses.

Intraocular pressure – changes in the balance of the fluids in the eye and disturbances in the drainage of its fluid will cause changes in the intraocular pressure. The pressure level is measured in this test, for the early diagnosis of diabetes and other eye diseases.

OCT scan – a test that allows examination of the various retinal layers as well as the optic nerve. This test is suitable for people suffering from diseases mainly in the posterior part of the eye.

Visual field test – the purpose of this test is the accurate detection of defects in the visual field of the eyes. Measurement can be done for each eye separately or for both together. The visual field test is used to diagnose diseases that cause a defect in the eye's visual field, as well as to monitor these diseases.

Vision tests for medical certificates – at an eye clinic, vision tests can also be performed for driving licenses and various occupational licenses.

Beyond that, there are eye clinics that offer therapeutic services for various eye problems. Among other things, you can find an eye institute that treats with laser (for vision corrections and eyeglass removal), treatments that include opening tear ducts, as well as surgical procedures on the eyelids.

The diagnosis is made in a variety of ways, from general eye examinations, through the use of special scanning devices, to the diagnosis of genetic diseases

It is worth relying on recommendations from friends, relatives or family members who have received or are receiving services at the clinic and can attest to the professionalism of the staff, as part of choosing an eye clinic. That said, the service you receive and the care you receive will say a lot about the quality of the eye clinic and the level of professionalism of the staff there.
